The map draws the full river. This route covers a section of it; the description says which.
The Rouge-Annonciation section provides expert paddlers access to the famous Rapides des Italiens with 1.7-km of class II-III rapids that kick off an exciting 11-km day run. This mixed-difficulty route features easy portaging options alongside the P'tit Train du Nord cycle path, making challenging rapids more accessible. The river offers peaceful paddling sections with warm shallow water, incredible sand point beaches and even a historic covered bridge. Best enjoyed from late spring through early fall when water levels are stable, the section provides good access from the village of L'Annonciation. Multiple takeout options allow flexible trip planning for intermediate to advanced paddlers.
The document describes 8. The map shows 13, because it only places rapids a national survey publishes a coordinate for. The two counts measure different things.
| Rapid | Class | Portage | Surveyor's note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rapide des petites soeurs | At km 118 | ||
| R2-3 | R2-3 | À vérifier | |
| R2-3 | R2-3 | yes | Rapids near 115 km marker |
| Rapide des grandes soeurs | yes | Rapids with portage available | |
| Rapide des petites soeurs | yes | Rapids with portage available | |
| Rapide des 7 chutes | yes | Rapids near 120 km marker | |
| R1 | R1 | Class 1 rapids near 130 km marker | |
| R2-3 | R2-3 | yes | Rapids near 125 km marker |
This table publishes no position for any rapid. Where a surveyor's note mentions a kilometre, those are their words quoted as written, and the figure was read off a scanned map: use it to follow their description, not to navigate. Most of these surveys were written in French.
