The map draws the full river. This route covers a section of it; the description says which.
Rivière du Sud-Ouest is a gentle tributary flowing through Saint-Mathieu-de-Rioux to the Saint Lawrence, featuring easy paddling with only 2 rapids and 1 portage. This 19.4 km river flows through a relatively flat plateau at 105m elevation, passing through Petit lac Saint-Mathieu and lac de la Station before reaching an impressive 18m waterfall near its mouth at havre du Bic. The slow-flowing waters make it ideal for beginners and families. Access is available from several points including Saint-Fabien village.
The document describes 2. The map shows 1, because it only places rapids a national survey publishes a coordinate for. The two counts measure different things.
| Rapid | Class | Portage | Surveyor's note |
|---|---|---|---|
This table publishes no position for any rapid. Where a surveyor's note mentions a kilometre, those are their words quoted as written, and the figure was read off a scanned map: use it to follow their description, not to navigate. Most of these surveys were written in French.
